Buddha Air stands tall as Nepal's number one domestic airline, a symbol of reliability and service for over 27 years. It was a genuine privilege to collaborate with their associate company, Buddha Tech, a new venture poised to bring innovation to the IT sector, focusing on diverse fields like finance, travel, and healthcare. The challenge was clear: create a distinct and modern identity for Buddha Tech that resonated with the trust and heritage of Buddha Air, yet firmly established its own footprint in the technology landscape.
Buddha Tech needed more than just a logo; it needed a visual anchor. An identity that could instantly communicate its nature as an IT solutions provider while honouring its connection to the esteemed Buddha Air brand. Key considerations included:
The name "Buddha Tech" itself provided a powerful starting point. "Buddha" evokes deep cultural resonance – concepts of peace, mindfulness, interconnectedness, and enlightenment. "Tech" represents the modern world – innovation, digital solutions, and connectivity. The goal was to visually fuse these concepts.
My core inspiration came from an unexpected source: the structural silhouette of the Laughing Buddha. Not a literal depiction, but its characteristic form – proportionally smaller at the top, expanding significantly towards the base. This shape felt symbolic of stability, groundedness, and a joyful presence.
The Symbol - The Interlocking 'B':
I started with the letter 'B'. Reimagining the Laughing Buddha's structure, I designed the 'B' with a smaller upper loop and a larger, more foundational lower loop.
Crucially, I mirrored this modified 'B' and interlocked the two shapes. This interlocking wasn't just aesthetic; it was deeply symbolic. It represents:
The resulting form creates a sense of continuous flow and mutual reliance, echoing the idea that "we need one another," especially when building something significant like a business.
Color Palette - Honoring the Roots:
The color selection was streamlined by the need to align with Buddha Air's established brand identity. This constraint became an advantage, ensuring immediate visual linkage.
I utilized Buddha Air's core colors: a strong, reliable Blue and a vibrant, distinct Greenish-Yellow. These colors provide a balance of trust and energy, fitting for a modern tech company with established roots.
Typography - Stability Meets Modernity:
Buddha Air utilizes a sans-serif font, tilted slightly (italicized) to suggest motion and flight – perfectly suited for an airline.
For Buddha Tech, an IT company focused on providing stable solutions and foundational support, a different approach was needed. I selected a clean, modern sans-serif font but kept it upright and solid, deliberately avoiding the italics.
This conscious typographic choice reinforces Buddha Tech's stability, reliability, and strength as a technology partner, contrasting subtly yet effectively with the dynamism of its parent airline.
This project stands out as one of my most efficient. From the moment the brief landed, the core concept felt clear and resonant. Having the color palette defined allowed focus to shift immediately to the form and meaning. The inspiration drawn from the Buddha silhouette provided a strong, unique direction.
The final Buddha Tech logo is a clean, meaningful, and modern mark that successfully bridges the company's technological focus with its respected heritage. It is:
